Description

Key Characters:

Growth Form: Trees 6–10(–12) m tall, secretory canals present in most parts.

Leaves: Leaves compound. Alternate. Blades 20–60(–75) cm long, leaflets 5–11(13), ovate to oblong–elliptic, 10–22 cm long, 4–8.5 cm wide (the lowest pair often smaller, ovate). Leaflet apices rounded-obtuse, rarely emarginate. Base leaflet base rounded to broadly cuneate, often oblique. Leaflet surfaces glabrous; blades coriaceous. Margins entire. Petiolate; petiolules 15–22 mm long. Stipules absent or rudimentary.

Flowers: Flowers in inflorescences erect, once compound–umbellate, primary axis short or absent, the 3–4 secondary axes (rays) stout, 5–20 cm long, rays without bract scars or very rarely with 1 scar, each with a terminal umbellule of 8–20 flowers. Flowers bisexual (perfect), actinomorphic; terminal (often appearing lateral). Pedicels thick, 15–65 mm long. Calyx an undulate rim, the lobes poorly defined. Corolla of 7–8 petals; petals pink or reddish, thick, triangular, 9–12 mm long. Stamens 45–66, in 2 whorls. Ovary inferior, 7(7)8–12-carpellate, surmounted by a reddish, conical nectary disk; stigmas (7)8–12, sessile.

Fruit: Drupes globose–urceolate (ribbed when dry); 20–25 mm long; the calyx forming an undulate crown at the top. Seeds 1 per pyrene; embryo small.

Ploidy:
